Sun-drying quilts for 2-3 hours is generally best. The optimal time is between 10 am and 3 pm on a sunny day, when the sunlight is strong and ultraviolet rays are high, effectively killing bacteria and mites and removing moisture.
Different quilt materials require different treatment:
Cotton quilts and synthetic fiber quilts: Sun-dry for 2-3 hours, but no more than 4 hours.
Down quilts, wool quilts, and silk quilts: These are made of protein fibers and are not resistant to direct sunlight. It is recommended to air-dry them in a well-ventilated area for 1-2 hours to avoid damaging the fibers and reducing their warmth.
After sun-drying, do not immediately put them in the closet. Let them sit for a while to allow the heat to dissipate before storing them to prevent the growth of bacteria and mites.
