Determining the authenticity of a mattress cover material requires a comprehensive verification process, combining label information, sensory experience, and authoritative certifications to avoid being misled by false advertising.

 

1. Check the Product Label and Standards: The label should clearly indicate the material composition (e.g., "100% cotton," "polyester fiber + TPU coating"), safety category (Class A is best, suitable for infants and young children), standard number (e.g., GB/T 34449-2017), and manufacturer information.

If the label only provides vague descriptions such as "high-grade fabric" or "premium material," lacking specific ingredients and standards, there is a high risk of false labeling.

 

2. Initial Sensory Identification:

Touch: Pure cotton feels soft and skin-friendly, absorbent and breathable; TPU waterproof covers have a smooth and elastic surface with a slightly adhesive feel on the reverse side; inferior products often have a pungent chemical smell or a noticeable plastic feel.

Burning Test (Optional): Ignite a small amount of fiber. Cotton burns quickly, leaving fine ash; synthetic fibers melt and drip, producing black smoke and a pungent odor, which can aid in identification.

 

3. Verify Authoritative Testing and Certification: Pay close attention to whether the product has passed third-party testing such as CMA, CNAS, SGS, and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 to ensure the absence of formaldehyde, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines, and other harmful substances.

Anti-mite and antibacterial functions should be supported by Sanitized certification or a test report. An antibacterial rate of ≥90% is practically meaningful.

 

4. Beware of Counterfeit Labels: Counterfeit labels exist in the market, especially in low-priced products where products labeled as "pure cotton" are often actually polyester. It is recommended to choose reputable brands and retain proof of purchase for future reference.

You can request the seller to provide a test report for the same batch to verify the product model's consistency with the report, preventing the sale of used or mislabeled products.

 

5. Refer to user test feedback. Pay more attention to real user reviews, especially regarding long-term use performance such as whether pilling, fading, or water seepage occurs after washing. This can more intuitively reflect the authenticity and durability of the material.
